UN Global Study on Children Deprived of Liberty

The Institute of Human Rights and Peace Studies (IHRP) of Mahidol University in cooperation with the Global Campus of Human Rights, and the Right Livelihood Foundation, organized a discussion forum on “Taking suggestions from the UN Global Study on Children Deprived of Liberty to the national agenda: the implementation of countries in East Asia” on February 19, 2020.

Dr. Ekaphan Pinthavanich, Director of Institute of Human Rights and Peace Studies Mahidol University and Dr. Monika Griefahn, Vice Chairman of the Right Livelihood Foundation Board of Directors, Member of the Right Livelihood College Administrative Council and Member of the Right Livelihood Award Foundation Switzerland, the former Environment Minister of the Lower Saxony State, and co-founder of the German Greenpeace organization welcomed the participants. Opening speech by Mr. Marcoluigi Corsi who is a Regional Deputy Director for UNICEF East Asia & Pacific.

 

On this occasion, Prof. Manfred Nowak who is a secretary of the Global Campus of Human Rights and an independent expert chief of this study delivered a speech on the study report of UN Global Study on Children Deprived of Liberty. There was honored by Emeritus Prof. Vithit Muntarbhorn from Faculty of Law Chulalongkorn University who is a former of UN Special Rapporteur and a UN committee for Human Rights Due Diligence as the closing speech.

 

This forum aims to present the study results and suggestions from the Global Study on Children Deprived of Liberty relating to East Asia region and roles of co-working sectors, in order to take recommendations from the UN Global Study on Children Deprived of Liberty into effective actions including sharing a best practices and challenges in this study.
