Development of core competency and network partners will help leaders and network partners have sufficient knowledge and capabilities to drive local early childhood development work efficiently and sustainably

The project team from the Amnat Charoen Campus Mahidol University was established to provide knowledge regarding early childhood development and academic services to individuals, organizations and communities. The knowledge packages consisting of 1) A knowledge package on development of an early childhood care system by local community, 2) A knowledge package to promote and strengthen network partners in order to develop the quality of life of children and families in the community, 3) A knowledge package on child development promotion with positive discipline, 4) A knowledge package on community health management and child development promotion, 5) Knowledge assessment and promotion of EF brain development of early childhood children at early childhood development centers.

In the fiscal year 2023, the project team from the Amnat Charoen Campus, Mahidol University and teams from outside agency are established to serve as consultants and speakers in the workshop on competency development project among leaders and network partners to improve the quality of life of children and families at provincial, district and sub-district levels. There are 4 projects, total of 15 days with participants of 970 people participating in the workshop at Sisaket province; and there are 2 projects, total of 4 days with participants of 194 people participating in the workshop at Mukdahan province, details as follows:

Children physical health and well-being promotion and creating positive discipline in children aged 2-5 year workshop was organized by teachers at the model child development center Sisaket Province in February 7, 2022. Participants in the workshop included teachers who take care of children at the model child development centers and responsible teachers who are in charge of child development from sub-district health promoting hospitals where the model child development centers are located. The numbers of 100 teachers participated in the workshop. Once these personnel passes the training, they will continue to organize activities with parents and children at the child development centers.

Child development promotion training for village health volunteers workshop. The aim was to promote these people to become a community health manager specializing in child development program working in the model sub-districts of Sisaket Province. The workshop was held on February 8, 2022. Participants in the workshop consisted of 60 village health volunteers, whose trainees would be leaders to drive child development promotion among parents, grandparents, and those who take care of children, and assist public health officials in enhancing child development.

Workshop on promoting and strengthening network partners to develop the quality of life of children and families in the community (CFCT: Child Family Community Team) of 22 model sub-districts and 25 model child development centers at Sisaket Province was held in May 6, 2022. The numbers of 110 participants including sub-districts leaders, village headmen, community leaders, the Director of Education Division, childcare teachers, village health volunteers, and public health personnel participated in the workshop.

Early childhood promotion and development workshop to promote children aged 2-5 years old and method learning through the process of developing the skills of the frontal lobes (Executive Function: EF) workshop was performed by trained teachers specializing in child development. These teachers are recruited from model child development centers and child development centers from public and private sectors, and it will be held in June 10, 2022 and June 26, 2022. The trainings are divided into 6 groups. Each group will join 2–day sessions, in the total of 12 days. The participants include 700 teachers from all child development centers.

Competency development focusing enhancing the skills and knowledge of the team speakers and leaders of on children and families (Child and Family Team) workshop. The focus is at provincial level under the project known as people of Mukdahan are good, smart, and happy in life or “Smart People Project” for fiscal year 2023. The aim of the workshop is to strengthen the competency of child and family development teams in order for these people to have understandings, skills and competencies in early childhood quality development (all aspects of development brain skills and identity). The workshop will be on 6-8 November 2023. Participants in the project consist of 30 team members (leaders and speakers) who are working on quality development of early childhood focusing on provincial and district levels.

Competency development focusing enhancing the skills and knowledge of the team speakers and leaders of on children and families (Child and Family Team) workshop. The focus is at provincial level under the project known as people of Mukdahan are good, smart, and happy in life or “Smart People Project” for fiscal year 2023.  The aim of the workshop is to strengthen the competency of child and family development teams in order for these people to have understandings, skills and competencies in early childhood quality development, and able to drive the work on quality development of early childhood in the area of ​​Mukdahan province effectively and continuously. The workshop will be held on December 22, 2023. Participants in the project consist of child and family development teams leaders and speakers, in the total of 164 people focusing on provincial, district and sub-district levels.

Network partners whose aim to improve the quality of life development of children and families at the provincial, district and sub-district levels of Sisaket province have participated in the workshop. This covers all districts, at least 1 sub-district from each district, with the total of 25 sub-districts. Network partners from each district have applied their lesson learned and knowledge gained from the workshop to improve child development centers and turn the existing ones to become a model child development center, with one per sub-district, in a total of 25 locations.

These include Ban Chok Temple Child Development Center (Si Rattana District), Ban Khanun Temple Child Development Center (Kantharalak District), Mary Upatham Private Nursery (Kantharalak District), Ban Chao Thung Child Development Center (Wang Hin District), Child Development Center, Prang Ku sub-district municipality (Prang Ku District), Nong Bua Dong Child Development Center (Sila Lat District), Child Development Center, Muang Khong municipality (Rasi Sai District), Ka Yung Child Development Center (Uthumphon Phisai District), Wat Suthi Sophon Child Development Center (Bueng Bun District), Ban Khok Child Development Center (Mueang Chan District), Child Development Center, Dod district municipality (Pho Si Suwan District), Chantra Prasat Temple Child Development Center (Amphoe Khukhan), Child Development Center Huai Tamon sub-district Administrative Organization (Phu Sing District), Child Development Center Tong Pid sub-district Administrative Organization (Nam Kliang District), Wat Tamyae Child Development Center (Phayu District), Suksawat Child Development Center (Prai Bueng District), Old Samrong Child Development Center (Khun Han District), Ban Nong Ngu Luam Child Development Center (Benjalak District), Child Development Center, Pho sub-district Administrative Organization (Non Khun District), Child Development Center, Tambon Kanthararom municipality (Kanthararom District), Child Development Center, Yang Chum Yoi Municipality (Yang Chum Noi District), Wat Ban Prasat Child Development Center (Huai Thap Than District), Ban Tadob Child Development Center (Mueang Sisaket District), Mariwitthaya Private Nursery (Mueang Sisaket District), and Ban Non Samnak Child Development Center (Mueang Sisaket District).

Numbers of 30 leaders of the working group on quality of life development for children and families in Mukdahan Province participated in the workshop. These people become main speakers in the conference/training courses to educate teachers who work and teach at kindergarten classes and child development centers. The entire area of ​​Mukdahan province is divided into 3 zones; therefore the speakers are divided into 3 teams. They are responsible for operations in each area. In this management, it enables the operations to cover all districts in Mukdahan province. In this regard, the project team and working groups of the Amnat Charoen Campus, Mahidol University are working as consultants and speakers throughout the project; and there are network of partners working as support team for development of the quality of life of children and families at the provincial, district, and sub-district levels.

Target groups and areas that gain benefit

Leaders and network partners who aim to improve the quality of life of children and families in Sisaket and Mukdahan provinces in the total of 1,164 people.

Impact

1) Sisaket and Mukdahan provinces have effective working mechanism; in which the work covers every district and sub-districts.

2) 25 model child development centers are established in 22 districts at Sisaket Province.

3) Early childhood children in Sisaket and Mukdahan provinces are assessed for childhood development and the results showed that children development has increased from 73-75% to 80-85%; and found children with suspected delayed development increased from the previous 20-22% to 27-30%.

Continuity and duration of the operation

Project operations have continued from the period fiscal year 2020-2022. Two provinces aim to drive the work of early childhood development to be provincial agenda. When the project becomes provincial agenda, all people from public and private sectors will participate and join together to develop potential of personnel and those who are involved with young children to have decent skills and knowledge and able to provide their actions seriously and effectively. However, there is a lack of specialize speakers who have knowledge and competence in the areas. Therefore, the operator team from the Amnat Charoen Campus, Mahidol University has been entrusted to be a consultant and speaker on many topics of the workshop project.
