Personnel potential development by world-class experts (Train the Trainers) leads to the improvement of medical care, networking, and the dissemination of knowledge to medical development outside the country (Training the Others), especially in developing countries.

Mahidol University in collaboration with the Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA), and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs signed the Memorandum of Agreement in the year 2021 to be the guidelines for developing the potential of medical personnel and health science area of Mahidol University with the modern techniques through experts from world-class institutions (Train the Trainers).

 

This leads to the knowledge transfer gained from experts to personnel about treating people in the country and distributing that knowledge to medical development outside the country (Training the Others) in developing countries, especially in the CLMV group, and creating a regional, international, and medical network to promote development diplomacy and medical diplomacy strategies. The collaboration corresponds with the Sustainable Development Goals in terms of partnerships for the goals of the university strategy in education for sustainability. Focusing on the development of medical personnel's knowledge, they are responsible for forwarding knowledge to developing countries.

 

There are 6 projects from 3 divisions participating as follows:

  1. Pancreatic transplantation, Faculty of Medicine Ramathibodi Hospital
  2. Basic to advance in kidney transplantation, Faculty of Medicine Ramathibodi Hospital
  3. Pediatric glaucoma course and live surgery, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital
  4. Advanced corneal transplantation, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital
  5. Academic conference & hands-on workshop on rehabilitation medicine for physicians and allied health professionals in Thailand and South-East Asia region, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital
  6. From single cell to big data: implementation of genomic data in infectious disease studies, Faculty of Tropical Medicine

 

The 3 projects have been implemented under the aforementioned cooperation since the beginning of 2022 as follows:

From single cell to big data: implementation of genomic data in infectious disease studies, Faculty of Tropical Medicine

The team of this project from the Faculty of Tropical Medicine organized Bioinformatics and Data Visualization in COVID-19 Genomic Surveillance (Level 1) via an online learning system on 10 March 2021. This training focuses on transferring knowledge using Phylogenetics Data to 52 participants from Vietnam, the Philippines, Nepal, Lao PDR, and Cambodia.

 

Pediatric glaucoma course and live surgery, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital

The team of this project from the Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital organized the international conference on the topic “Thailand-International conference: Things you need to know in Childhood glaucoma surgery” via an online learning system on 20 March 2022. On this occasion, there are experts from Oregon Health & Science University, the University of Virginia from the USA, and Moorfields Eye Hospital & Great Ormond Street Hospital from the UK as the trainer for participants. This training focuses on Ophthalmologist cooperation to transfer knowledge to developing countries in neighboring regions. All participants total 229 from Thailand, Myanmar, Malaysia, Mongolia, Indonesia, and Lao PDR.

 

Basic to advance in kidney transplantation, Faculty of Medicine Ramathibodi Hospital

The team of this project from the Faculty of Medicine Ramathibodi Hospital organized the international training on the topic “Basic to Advance Kidney Transplantation” on 25 May 2022 for medical personnel from Mittaphab Hospital, Lao PDR total of 18 in 2 weeks. This training will prepare the medical staff to educate about kidney transplantation.
