The No Smoking, New Normal: Commit to Quit project reduced the number of new smokers while also educating young people about long-term health. The project also increased people's willingness to quit smoking during and after the crisis.

For 12 years, the Nursing Students No-Smoke Club, Faculty of Nursing, Mahidol University, has run a smoking cessation project called "Sharing Knowledge: Gen Z "Say No," which aims to educate nursing students about the hazards and dangers of tobacco and electronic cigarettes.

The former project's outcome would benefit Thai youth by lowering the likelihood of smoking. This project increases the knowledge of children and students in the area of health science about the strategies or techniques and includes guidelines for handling smoking problems.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this project has to be organized under the new normal. The organizer, a nursing student’s no-smoking club at the Faculty of Nursing, Mahidol University, conducted the project with new normal events (social distancing) to decrease the number of new smokers and provide health information to people. The study found that smoking increases the likelihood of contracting COVID-19. Furthermore, the project aims to reduce and eventually eliminate smoking during and after the COVID-19 pandemic.

On August 22, 2021, from 08.30 to 12.00 am, the project "Knowledge to Share Project 13th, Gen Z "Say No" by Nursing Students' Power Stop Smoking: New Normal; Commit to Quit" will be held via MS Teams or Zoom. The participants comprised 141 students at Mathayomwatsing School, 5 nursing students, and 4 lecturers and teachers. The goal of this project is to reduce the risk factors for NCDs caused by smoking, to prevent NCDs from occurring by educating students on how to quit smoking, and to reduce the number of new smokers.

After this project, the school became a role model for developing effective smoking control in the school area. The school has student leaders in smoking and drug surveillance control. In addition, this project can be expanded to other schools in the same area.
